My new studio smells like paint for the first time. Just started working on my first painting in a year, first oil in 2 years. This is a reminder to myself, one aspect of my approach to making art.
When I think of all the years I’ve wasted because I couldn’t create the perfect piece of art…until I was older and really looked at others art and realized that none were perfect. But they were out there and I was looking at them…that was the perfection 🙂 I’m delighted that you’re painting again and have a lovely new studio in which to follow your heart 🙂
Or is it when the first glimpse of inspiration pops in my mind ? About renunciation, I totally agree. It comes as it want to come. To me, the final stage, putting it on paper, is kind of meditation. Many thanks, INFJoe !
Confidence? What you can do is go get a really nice sketch book and some drawing pens and pencils. Doodle, draw, whatever in it just for fun and show no one. No one. Your private, safe place to explore and have fun. Above all, do not judge your drawings.

In a world that sees art as a craft or technique (and thus subject to being perfected) it is difficult to actually make art that is art.

Yes, a kind of meditation! When the idea pops in my head, I think of that as conception. 🙂

I don’t have the confidence to draw, Joe. I let you do that for me. 🙂

Yes I know what you mean!! Perfectonist tendencies are the worst… work for some things for sure but destructive for stuff like intuition and art
