While I’m folding origami, people often try to guess what I’m making before I’m finished. We are all works in progress and don’t know what we will yet become.
I like this particularly since it reminds me of my yoga teacher training where we learned about the lotus flower blooming in splendour out of the murky depths… I realised that I am that lotus flower and in memory of that got a ‘jewel in the lotus’ (om mane padme om) tattooed on my sacrum. It was one of those a-ha moments for me…
I think the flower in this cartoon is iris, not lotus. I’m familiar with the beautiful lotus analogy. It comes from the prose, an ode to Lotus (a pdf), by the Chinese philosopher, Zhou Dunyi. “I love only the lotus for rising from the mud but is not stained, bathed by clear waves but is not seductive.”

I usually say “it’s a secret!” or “you will see soon enough”. Daym people so impatient.
